With a background in graphic design I found it difficult to find opportunities to express myself through my work. I found most of the graphic design jobs where just the laying out of text, or designing what someone else told me to design. This was a struggle for me for I still hoped to find a way to express myself, that is when I turned to my camera.
A viewer of one of my photographs commented that “my mind is as large as all my eye sees”. I am not exactly sure what they meant when they wrote that, but when I read it this was what I was hoping to portray through my photographs. My thoughts and feelings showing through the eye of the lens. For me it is not only what my eyes see when I take a photograph, also a feeling or a thought comes to me from the time I look into the lens until the shutter clicks. Although some of my photographs simply show what I find beautiful or interesting. The ones that show a feeling or thought that come to me at that moment, such thoughts or feelings as; a feeling of a worst fear, the feeling of sadness when saying good-bye, feelings of awe, feelings of inspiration, of love, of admiration and feelings of very fond memories. These are the photographs I am most proud of because they have something to say.
As I look through the lens of my camera I think to myself viewing these objects of beauty or interest. How scary, being so apparent and seen by all who may pass, and then suddenly an even more fearful thought comes to mind, what if being so perceptible went unnoticed, and then the shudder clicks.
